Statement
βThe body is central to all my work, none of these works could be conceived without the body. Vulnerability, fragility, strength, caging and protection of the body are recurring themes. I like to explore gender and memory.
My work performs an act of self-portraiture; I can recognize myself in the work I produce.
My family history as bookbinder has influenced my sensitivity to paper and its communicative qualities over time. My fascination with paper accompanies much of my artistic production. I often use it in combination with very thin fabrics, as if I were creating a second skin that, worn directly on the body, can tell a very personal story. My fascination with iron comes from the fact that it is a very ancient metal, from the way it is welded, from the fact that it has an indefinable color, from its rigidity, and from the way the wire bends nervously.
My hollow pieces, the cocoons, forms that maintain the shape of my body even in its absence, make me question the presence and absence of the body, of the self. Does my cocoon not only hold the shape of my body, but can it also hold my inner states?Creating works that intend to question the boundaries between jewellery, garment, skin, subject and object is a very interesting process. Not limiting the scale of my work and not having preconceived ideas about the materials to use is one of the most enjoyable parts of my production.β
